World-class university rankings and participation quotas for countries

Abstract

This article uses the levels of economic competitiveness made the World Economic Forum to sets two groups of countries; the first group has a high level of competitiveness and the second with lower level of competitiveness. According to the groups of countries, it takes two international rankings for universities and creates two groups of universities. With the categories and indicators of both rankings, the means for the two groups are calculated and compared, finding clear differences between them, but a similar behavior in the field of scientific publications. Also, the differences in scientific competitiveness is lower than differences on economic competitiveness.
