Data mining as a strategy to increase competitiveness in business management: a bibliometric study

Abstract

The data associated with the internal company processes are automatically recorded and stored in increasingly large databases. The efficient management of this information allows company managers to engage in a more effective decision making process. In this scenario, data mining techniques are becoming enabling tools that allow organizations to achieve a productive and sound decision-making. Given the importance of such technology in modern busines management, this research was conducted using a bibliometric study from the literature covering this particular topic that has been indexed in the Web of Science database (wos). This study aims to build an overview of the application of data mining techniques to support administrative tasks in business. This study also seeks to identify who the most important authors on the topic have been for the 2005 to 2013 period. The results show trends in main lines of research that, around this topic, are being conducted by the scientific publications recorded in this database.
