Analysis of the socioeconomic impact of yellowfin tuna farming in the bay of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Abstract

United States closed all the markets for the Mexican exports of tuna, and the economic repercussions for the Port of Ensenada, and in general for the country, was severe, since the tuna left to be one of the main products of export. Reason by which, promoted the culture of the tuna blue (Thunnus orientalis), in Ensenada and of the tuna yellow (Thunnus albacares) in La Paz Bay, species that by the moment are cultured in the modality of fattens in cages. This activity characterizes because his benefit is high and does not know his participation in the social and economic development of the regions in where they are. Neither it knows the training of networks of value of the production of tuna by aquaculture, that allow to quantify the participation of the population and the benefits to this, in such a way that they give the conditions for incentive the development. The present work is an analysis of the socioeconomic impact of the culture of tuna in La Paz Bay in Baja California Sur State.
