Keywords:
Banco Comercial del Pacífico, Banco de Comercio en Sinaloa, Regional Banking, Mexican Banking System, Financial IntermediationAbstract
This article analyzes the transformation of Banco Comercial del Pacífico (1930)
to Banco de Comercio de Sinaloa (1956) through the analysis of primary sources
(notarial archives, statistical bulletins from the National Banking Commission,
local newspapers) and a review of the historiography on Mexican
regional banking. The methodology combines historical documentary analysis
with the theoretical approach of financial intermediation and its relationship
with regional economic growth. It examines how integration into the Commercial
Banks System modified the shareholding and operational structure of this
institution, allowing its expansion as the main local private bank in Sinaloa
during the 1930-1976 period. The results show that affiliation with Banco de
Comercio, S.A. (1943) and subsequent consolidation as Banco de Comercio
de Sinaloa (1956), responded to national expansion strategies through regional
affiliate networks, contributing to the agricultural and commercial development
of central and northern Sinaloa.
