The transit towards enmity: allusions to the student body in the presidential reports of Mexico (1946-1982)

Abstract

In Mexico, the government reports condense the occupations and concerns of the administration in turn; at the same time, they reveal the ideology of the State and the duty of its citizens. In this article, these political discourses are examined to find out the way in which the alleged detractors of the regime were represented, according to the context and their characteristics. Thus, the allusions to the student body in the presidential reports from 1946 to 1982 are analyzed with the intention of demonstrating, based on the discursive cons­tants and variants, how and why the social conflicts and political disputes of those six-year terms saw the students go from pampered to enemies of the system.
