The university city of Nuevo León and the vulnerability of its modern architecture (or what is left of it)

Abstract

The university city was an urban phenomenon of the 20th century and a mani­festation of the political, cultural and social ideals of the nation that created it. In México, three campuses were built almost simultaneously, two of them in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León, and the other in the country's capital; all of them as a manifestation of modern architecture and urbanism. This article examines the conditions that one of them has reached to these days: the Uni­versity City of Nuevo León (1957-1969), with its modern architecture frag­mented after decades of neglect, lack of maintenance or simple destruction in favor of constant progress
