This article analyzes a historical map of Sinaloa kept by the National Library of Spain. According to its title, Ruta del paso por Tierra a la California, y de las Misiones visitadas por el Padre José Ignacio Palomino para mejor conocimiento de las mismas en la Cinaloa, it represents the route of the overland passage to the California peninsula and the series of missions visited by the Jesuit Father Ignacio Palomino. Historian Ernest Burrus suggested that the original map was part of the report on the Guasave mission of 1744. The paper sets out the historical context and geography in which Palomino lived to understand better the route represented.Downloads
