Abstract

This article offers a brief analysis of three elements present in the new spanish radical right party Vanguardia that come from a long right tradition: antiliberalism, nationalism and decadentism. From a historical review of the genealogy of these three elements, it is observed how Vanguardia has adopted and transformed certain ideological aspects of francoism that the latter, in turn, took over from old ideologies. In this sense, history becomes an analytical tool that allows us to trace the origins of the new political struggles and demands in order to identify the basic principles of the ideology of the contemporary radical right and to explain its most ancient meaning.
