In Mexico, the automotive industry is considered a strategic pillar for economic growth.
Since its creation in the country, it has gone through different stages, such as assembly,
integration and export, due to changes in the country's regulatory policies over time. linked
to global changes. However, to date no policy has been sufficiently successful; in principle
the import substitution strategy, which promoted growth and industrialization with a
nationalist context, was unable to maintain balance. On the other hand, the export strategy
dismantled all previous regulation. It is clear that the industry brings with it many benefits,
however, the country has not yet channeled them adequately, that is, leading to greater
integration of local companies as well as increasing the competitiveness of the national
market. The following work is based on a historical review of the automotive industry and
its economic regulation until reaching a current definition, seeking to offer a strategic profile
to ensure public policies that lead to the competitiveness of the domestic industry in the
market.
