The role of Nursing professional´s roles in the implementation of pre-exposure prophylaxis (prep) in Mexico

Abstract

Introduction: The incidence of HIV/AIDS continues to be a global public health challenge. In Mexico, the trend of new cases has been on the rise for the past five years, especially among key populations. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a key biomedical advancement to reduce the incidence of this condition. Objective: To analyze the role of nursing professionals in the implementation of PrEP in Mexico. Development: PrEP is examined as an effective method of HIV prevention, highlighting its relevance in the most vulnerable populations. Additionally, the fundamental role of nursing intervention in the PrEP care model is analyzed, emphasizing implications and opportunities. Conclusions: Nursing interventions, such as motivational interviewing, the use of mobile technology, and personalized education, are relevant for improving acceptance, adherence, and retention in PrEP and reducing new HIV infections.
