Keywords:
Gender studies, Bachelor, DiscriminationAbstract
The current situation in Mexico and in the world shows a reality in which women and girls face discrimination in terms of access to education, employment, political participation and basic rights, and where gender inequality is still a persistent problem. This demands the development of strategies that lead to more just and egalitarian societies. In this article we propose the creation of professional programs which through education lead people be prepared to help solving this kind of problems. We present as a case of study the Bachelor of Gender Studies, a newly created program of the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa -UAS. Although there are already professional careers in Mexico universities, that include subjects on gender equality in their programs, or that try to make this type of study transversal; it is not enough in order to face the problems that exist around gender inequality in Sinaloa and in the country. Hard work is required in education, where young students be prepared in a real way, and where they be aware to be agents of change, beings with critical thinking, capable of realizing what is happening in society, in any niche in which they find themselves; but above all that they be capable of offering proposals to achieve families, companies, governments and, in short, a more just and gender-equal society. In this sense, this essay focuses on highlighting the importance of gender studies and analyzing the relevance of the academic proposal of the Bachelor of Gender Studies project that the UAS will start in next 2023-2024 scholar year.
