Public Opinion: A Field of Social Science Studies
Keywords:
public opinion, public, audiences, public sphereAbstract
This article proposes an approach to the construction of public opinion as a field of study within the social sciences, especially in history. The fundamental approaches of this field are reviewed: the initial concerns at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century in relation to the functioning of the public sphere. Likewise, the contributions of the authors that have given rise to various trends and approaches in the 20th century are examined. From there, a dialogue between the field of public opinion and historical research is explored. Finally, the possibilities of research that this field allows are reflected upon.
