AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Manual for the Preparation of Manuscripts for Publication in REVISTA INGENIERÍA Y TECNOLOGÍA UAS

  1. THE ELECTRONIC MANUSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS
    • The manuscript must be prepared in Microsoft Word format (.doc).
    • The use of complex or inconsistent formatting styles should be avoided. Authors are encouraged not to apply unnecessary design features to the text or use multiple font types.
  1. ILLUSTRATIONS
    • The minimum acceptable resolution for all graphic materials is 300 dpi.
    • Illustrations must be submitted in one of the following file formats: .tif, .gif, .jpg, .psd, or .cdr.
    • When the manuscript includes photographs, illustrations, plans, maps, tables, or similar materials, these must be provided as separate digital files (either digitally created or properly scanned at the required resolution), in addition to being inserted within the manuscript. All graphic materials must be numbered consecutively to facilitate the editorial and design process.
    • All graphic material used in the manuscript must either be the original work of the author(s) or be accompanied by the appropriate permissions for reproduction.
    • All figures and graphs must include a title and caption. Graphic elements should follow consistent design criteria and must also be submitted as separate files.
  1. TEXT FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
    • The manuscript shall be prepared using Times New Roman, 12-point font for the main text.
    • Margins shall be set as follows: 2.5 cm for the top and bottom margins and 3 cm for the left and right margins.
    • Paragraph indentation should not exceed the equivalent of eight characters. The first paragraph of each chapter and the first paragraph following a subtitle should not be indented.
    • The manuscript must be double-spaced, resulting in approximately 23 to 25 lines per page. These specifications also apply to notes, references, appendices, and supplementary materials.
    • Quotations longer than five lines must be separated from the main text by a blank line before and after the quotation and indented uniformly. The quotation should be presented in 11-point font. Because the quotation block is visually distinct from the author's text, quotation marks should be omitted.
    • In technical manuscripts, mathematical formulas and similar materials (such as tables or small diagrams) that are separated from the text should be centered and preceded and followed by a blank line. Variables, symbols, and both uppercase and lowercase letters used in formulas should be italicized.
    • a + b                                     6a² + ah + b² = 0
    • Mathematical symbols and operators (=, +, −, ×, /, >, <, etc.) must be preceded and followed by a space.
    • Epigraphs (11-point font) should be right-aligned and occupy approximately two-thirds of the text width. The cited author's name should be separated from the epigraph by a blank line, and two additional blank lines should precede the main text.
    • Footnote references should be indicated using superscript numbers without periods or parentheses. If a second sequence is required, asterisks may be used; if a third sequence is necessary, daggers or superscript letters may be employed. In all cases, note indicators should appear after punctuation marks.
    • A space equivalent to three lines should precede each subtitle, and one blank line should separate the subtitle from the text that follows.
    • Except as indicated above, no additional spacing should be inserted between paragraphs.
    • Chapters, regardless of their length, should be presented as separate sections and not typed continuously.
    • Different levels of headings must be clearly distinguished through typography. The following format is recommended:
    • First level (chapter titles): UPPERCASE, 16-point font.
    • Second level (subtitles): SMALL CAPITALS, regular type, or italics, 14-point font.
    • Third level (main text): regular font, 12-point.
    • Fourth level (footnotes): regular font, 10-point.
    • Avoid emphasizing text through boldface or full capitalization. When emphasis is necessary, italics should be used.
    • References must follow the APA citation style.
    • Manuscripts must have a minimum length of eight pages.
    • Manuscripts must not exceed twelve pages.
    • The abstract must be provided in both English and Spanish, contain between 100 and 150 words, and include the following elements in the order indicated:
  • Design/Methodology/Approach
  • Study Limitations/Implications
  • Originality/Value
  • Findings/Conclusions
    • The title must be provided in both English and Spanish.
