Eclipses are astronomical phenomena of great interest since records were made by ancient civilizations. Many of them with a great amount of astronomical knowledge identified and studied them. These phenomena have always been surrounded by myths regarding events involving people, flora and fauna. The present study followed 780 reproductive structures (buttons, flowers and fruits) of the res pitaya (Stenocereus martinezii), one day before, and five and ten days after the sun eclipse to evaluate the potential abortion impact in such structures. The monitoring of the reproductive structures showed an 87% of survival as a whole and the statistical analysis showed no-statistical differences in the impact of reproductive structures among samples, proving that at least for this species, eclipses do not influence button, flower or fruit abortion.
