VEGETATION AND FLORA OF EL MAVIRI IN THE APFF ISLANDS OF THE GULF OF CALIFORNIA, SINALOA SECTION.
Keywords:
Maviri, Topolobampo, island, ornamental, weeds, mangrove, thorn forest.Abstract
El Maviri is an island with a high tourist influx where sandy and clayey soils mixed with salt from the sea predominate, so the vegetation cover is determined by mangroves in the estuary part and halophilous vegetation in the areas of low and sandy dunes, while the thorn forest is distributed in sites with less concentrated salt soils and the xerophilous scrub is subordinated to almost vestigial rocky promontories. 270 plant species were determined distributed in 220 genera and 65 families, standing out for the number of species Fabaceae (27), Poaceae (22), Asteraceae (20) and Cactaceae (15). The greatest species richness is found in the thorn forest (115). The ornamental forms (76) introduced in the restaurant area stand out for their large number of species, as well as the ruderal species (91) and, combined, both groups contribute 62.08% of the total flora of the island, which positions it with the greatest floristic diversity in the Flora and Fauna Protection Area of the Gulf of California Islands, Sinaloa section.
