Estado actual de la estreptococosis de tilapia en Colombia

Resumen

La estreptococosis es una de las enfermedades bacterianas más relevantes en la acuicultura a nivel mundial, causada principalmente por especies del género Streptococcus. En peces de cultivo; especialmente en la producción de tilapia, se ha convertido en un problema sanitario recurrente en sistemas de cultivo intensivo, generando altas tasas de mortalidad y significativas pérdidas económicas, lo que representa un riesgo para la sostenibilidad de la producción acuícola y genera preocupaciones en la salud pública y el equilibrio de los ecosistemas acuáticos. El objetivo de esta revisión es presentar el estado actual de la estreptococosis en tilapia en Colombia, describiendo las diferentes cepas de Streptococcus agalactiae identificadas en el país y las estrategias de prevención reportadas en la literatura, considerando sus ventajas y/o limitaciones en la producción acuícola.
