Abstract

Introduction:Candida vulvovaginitis is one of the most frequent vaginal infections during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, due to the increase in estrogen levels that favors colonization by Candida albicans. This study describes the application of the Nursing Care Process (NCP) in a 24-week pregnant patient diagnosed with Candida vulvovaginitis, aiming to evaluate how this methodology contributes to improving comfort, preventing complications, and promoting maternal well-being. Methods:The work was conducted according to the five suggested stages of the process methodology: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The 13 domains of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association and a head-to-toe assessment wereapplied, identifying specific needs. The patient, a 22-year-old woman in her first pregnancy, presented with symptoms of yellow-green vaginal discharge, pruritus, burning sensation, local skin lesions, and fever of 38 °C. Results:Risk diagnostic labelsof infection and impaired skin integrity were established, and interventions were designed to control infection, promote adequate nutrition, and prevent skin injuries. In addition, an improvement was observed in symptomatology, comfort, and understanding of her health condition. Conclusions:The application of the nursing care process promotes comprehensive care, prevents complications, and improves the quality of life of the pregnant woman.
