Abstract

Accelerated urban growth in intermediate cities such as Mazatlán, Sinaloa, has generated an increasing demand for technological tools for the management and visualization of territorial information. In this context, this paper proposes the architectural design of a web-based geographic viewer aimed at centralizing and facilitating access to the municipality’s geospatial data through an open-source interactive platform. The proposed architecture integrates Leaflet.js as the client-side cartographic visualization engine, PostgreSQL with the PostGIS extension for server-side spatial data management, and standard services from the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), such as WMS and WFS, to ensure interoperability between data layers [1]. The methodology comprises four stages: systematic literature review, collection and structuring of institutional geospatial data, system architecture design, and conceptual validation through flow diagrams and use cases. The system is expected to integrate thematic layers of urban infrastructure, territorial boundaries, and points of interest, making them accessible to citizens, researchers, and decision-makers without the need for specialized software. This work contributes to the democratization of geospatial information at the municipal level and establishes the technical foundation for the future implementation of the system.
