Economía simbólica y economía de la experiencia: ¿Dos caras de la misma moneda en la construcción del producto turístico?

Globalization and increasingly frequent economic turbulence have imposed challenges on cities that force them to increase their efficiency in order to remain competitive entities and be able to boost economic processes that contribute to the quality of life of their inhabitants. In this sense, creativity in public management invites governments to innovate and diversify proposals that help the city retain or increase its standards as a productive entity and translate into well-being for its population; one of the main areas that from the 21st century is considered central to such performance in the link of the city in the fields of symbolic and experience economies, in which cultural industries have a central role, especially in those cities in which tourism is one of its productive branches.
The objective of the document is to explain the productive transition of the city towards the symbolic and experience economies, where creative tourism is consolidated as a fundamental part for destinations to diversify their market niches and be able to maintain or catapult themselves as capable competitive spaces of addressing postmodern socio-economic challenges.
