Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Authors certify that their manuscript is original, unpublished, and is not under consideration by another journal simultaneously. If, during the review process, any of the reviewers identify total or partial plagiarism, the editorial process will be terminated.

Types of Contributions

The journal accepts two types of contributions:

Research articles present original research findings and should be organized according to the following structure: Introduction, Research Problem, Theoretical and Conceptual Framework, Methodology, Results, and Conclusions. In these cases, the funding institution, if applicable, must be specified.

Book reviews provide a critical and historiographical analysis of recently published works relevant to the historical discipline and offering thematic, methodological, empirical, or analytical contributions. Reviewed works must have been published within the last three years.

Manuscript Preparation Information Required on the First Page

Submissions must include the following information on the first page:

  • Title of the manuscript, in both Spanish and English, not exceeding 25 words, clearly reflecting the content and, when applicable, indicating the geographical location and approximate time frame covered by the study.
  • Abstract, in Spanish and English, of no more than 250 words, highlighting the contributions, key aspects of the study, hypothesis, methodology, and results.
  • Keywords, in Spanish and English (minimum of three and maximum of five).
  • Author information, including full name(s), institutional affiliation, highest academic degree, ORCID iD, and e-mail address.

Manuscript Structure

  • Articles and book reviews must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format, using Times New Roman, 12-point font, and 1.5 line spacing. Footnotes should be in 10-point font and single-spaced.
  • Research articles should range between 18 and 25 pages (approximately 8,000 to 12,000 words), including references, bibliography, tables, figures, graphs, and illustrations.
  • Book reviews must include, at the top of the first page, the complete bibliographic reference of the work under review, as well as the reviewer's name, ORCID iD, e-mail address, and institutional affiliation. Reviews should range between 3 and 5 pages (maximum 2,000 words).
  • All tables, charts, images, and figures, whether included in the manuscript or not, must also be submitted as separate files, clearly indicating their title, source, and insertion point within the text. They must be prepared for publication and numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals.
  • Images must be submitted in JPG or TIFF format, with a maximum size of half a page and a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Original images are preferred. Authors are responsible for obtaining and submitting any permissions required for the publication of copyrighted images.
  • Tables and figures prepared in Microsoft Excel must be submitted as separate Excel files, with their intended location clearly indicated within the manuscript.

Citation Style

The journal follows the American Psychological Association (APA), 6th edition citation style.

In-text references should include the author's surname(s), year of publication, and page number in parentheses.

Example:

(Román & Aguilar, 2005, pp. 120–125).

When the author's name is mentioned within the text, only the year should appear in parentheses.

Example:

According to Arturo Román and Gustavo Aguilar (2005), the economy of northwestern Mexico developed through three stages...

For works with three, four, or five authors, all authors should be cited the first time the work is referenced. Subsequent citations should include the surname of the first author followed by et al. and the year of publication.

Direct quotations of up to 40 words should be enclosed in quotation marks and incorporated into the body of the text. Quotations exceeding 40 words should be presented as block quotations, separated from the main text, indented from the left margin, and without quotation marks.

Footnotes

  • Footnotes should be indicated using consecutive Arabic numerals and formatted with single spacing. Superscript numbers must always be placed at the end of a sentence or paragraph, immediately after the period.
  • Footnotes should be used whenever the text refers to official or archival sources. In the case of archival materials, the full name of the archive followed by its acronym in parentheses should be provided the first time it is cited. Subsequent references should use only the acronym. This follows the conventional citation practice within the historiographical community, proceeding from the general to the specific according to the classification system of the archive consulted. All archival references must include the archive acronym and the corresponding classification of the cited document.
  • Footnotes containing bibliographic references must also follow the APA style.
  • Footnotes are intended to clarify aspects of the main text and facilitate readers' understanding.

References and Sources

  • The reference list should include only works cited in the text and should be arranged alphabetically by authors' surnames. If the same author has two or more publications from the same year, lowercase letters should be added after the year (e.g., 2005a, 2005b, 2005c, and so forth).
  • The names of coordinators, directors, compilers, or editors should be followed by the abbreviations (coord.), (dir.), (comp.), or (ed.), as appropriate, followed by a comma.
  • In the case of co-publications, the name of each publisher should be separated by commas and acronyms should be omitted (e.g., Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California).
