In a course for the Doctoral Program in Education at the Universidad Pedagógica del Estado de Sinaloa in Los Mochis, Mexico, an exercise was conducted to create a scientific article using artificial intelligence. The objective was to analyze the experiences of using this large language model and its implications for teaching. Through a mini-ethnographic case study method, a series of elements to consider regarding AI were found: 1) the difficulty in ‘humanizing’ the texts and avoiding detection, 2) the imprecision of AI-generated essays as reliable scientific documents, and 3) the insufficiency of pedagogical elements for the critical analysis of the documents, among others. A series of recommendations are made: 1) verify the veracity of AI-generated essays, especially concerning citations and references, 2) relativize the use of AI detection and anti-plagiarism software, and 3) detect discriminatory biases based on gender, class, and ethnicity, among other aspects. The development process of AI is only beginning, and this will bring significant changes to the work of educators, particularly in higher education and postgraduate studies, in relation to the editing of scientific documents.
