Abstract

Introduction: Introduction: Population aging in Mexico has increased the proportion of people over 60 years of age, generating a greater demand for medical care. This phenomenon is related to the progressive loss of physical, emotional, and social capacities, which affects the autonomy and quality of life of older adults. This study focuses on exploring these experiences in the hospital context, particularly in a secondary care hospital in Culiacán, Sinaloa. The objective is to describe the experience of health loss in hospitalized older adults, considering its physical, emotional, and social impact, and its relationship with the medical environment and available support. Methodology: A qualitative study with a phenomenological design was conducted. Four adults over 65 years of age, selected for their ability to communicate effectively, participated. The interviews were recorded and transcribed, paying attention to verbal and body language. The data were analyzed to identify patterns related to emotions and support networks. Results: The analysis revealed two main categories: 1. Emotions related to the loss of health: Emotions vary according to each patient's situation, highlighting sadness, fear, anxiety and frustration. 2. Support network related to the nursing professional: This support has positive effects on the patient's experience, fostering confidence and hope. Conclusion: The loss of health is a multifaceted process that affects the autonomy and quality of life of adults. Comprehensive care must include emotional, social and physical dimensions, reinforcing the support of the nursing staff.
