The balance of payments in Mexico for the period from 1993 to 2016: an analysis by regions

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the situation of the balance of payments in Mexico for the period from 1993 to 2016, through a review of the literature, carrying out a documentary research, describing the subject and analyzing the public information of different national and international institutions as well as the efforts and discourse of the Federal Government. How is Mexico’s deficit explained? Despite having 12 agreements in 46 countries, the results indicate that Mexico has a lag in its commercial relationship with other regions including Asia-Pacific, from five countries in America (Canada, Chile, United States, Mexico and Peru) Mexico with 2.22% is the least integrated to that region.
