TourismAbstract
In recent decades, the processes of touristification have triggered a series of citizen discontents in various tourist-receiving communities. As the editors aptly state in the introductory chapter, touristification manifests itself as a process of socio-spatial transformation that implies a primacy of tourist activities, where everything revolves around the profit of capital owners and social dynamics are absorbed by lucrative leisure activities, neglecting the needs of society as a whole. The work reviewed here enriches the debate on the pernicious effects of tourism from a critical perspective. The editors weave together a series of 25 manuscripts (including the introduction), drawn from diverse theoretical frameworks and featuring contributions from thirty academics.
