Abstract

The generation of urban solid waste in coastal communities represents one of the most significant environmental challenges, particularly due to its contribution to marine pollution. This study presents a review of the conceptual foundations, classification, impacts, and management strategies of solid waste, with emphasis on its dynamics in coastal environments. The study analyzes land-based sources of pollution, transport mechanisms toward the ocean, and the effects on biodiversity and human health. In addition, approaches such as circular economy and integrated waste management are addressed, together with proposed lines of action to improve waste management in Mexican coastal zones.
