The Ethics as an Integral Part of Dentists' Education in Mexico

Ethics plays a key role in the training of dentists, evolving from moral principles to formal ethical codes. Despite its importance, ethics in dental education in Mexico faces challenges such as relegated content, insufficient study hours, and limited methodologies. Curricular reform is deemed necessary to address contemporary ethical dilemmas and adapt to societal changes.
The constant update of ethical content is crucial to tackle current challenges like patient rights and disparities in access to oral health. In addition to considering ethics as a cross-cutting theme in education, the use of innovative educational strategies, such as sociodrama and ethical deliberation through critical analysis of literary dilemmas, is proposed to develop moral reasoning and reflection skills.
In ethical performance, the dentist prioritizes the patient's well-being, demonstrating transparency, honesty, and integrity. Ethics goes beyond normative compliance, requiring genuine commitment to integrity and continuous improvement. The effective integration of ethics into dental education necessitates collaboration between educational institutions, professional associations, and health authorities to ensure responsible practices and address contemporary oral health needs.
