Abstract

The Talipot palm dies after flowering and fruiting. The event is related to the metaphor of the swan song where the bird sings a beautiful melody before dying. The palm with its majestic inflorescences is similar to the swan's melody in its morphology, quantity and place where it appears. The energetic sacrifice of reproduction compensates for the millions of flowers and seeds produced at the end of its life cycle, which lasts between 4 and 6 decades.
