Abstract

This article examines the university student struggles in the province of San Juan, Argentina, during the period from 1966 to 1970, coinciding with the dictatorship of Juan Carlos Onganía and the provincial civilian interventions of Edgardo Gómez and José López. Our aim is to analyze the state university student movement in the province, encompassing its formation, practices, and internal dynamics. This investigation delves into a crucial moment for understanding the historical development of the phenomenon, closely intertwined with the social struggles of that era. Employing a qualitative methodology utilizing documentary and oral sources, we reconstruct a period marked by intensified student protests. These protests, rapidly organized in response to the dictatorship's provocations, successfully mobilized students from various educational institutions in San Juan. Simultaneously, in its dynamic alignment with other sectors opposed to the regime, the student movement deepened its level of politicization, gained experience, and matured in its struggle.
