ATTITUDES TOWARD BREASTFEEDING IN THE LAST TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCYAT IMSS IN CIUDAD JUAREZ

Introduction: In Mexico, according to the 2021-2022 national health survey, only 33% of women breastfeed their children under 6 months of age, revealing that the remaining 67% are fed artificial milk, which increases the risks of morbidity and mortality in children. Objetive: To analyze the types of attitudes that women have towards breastfeeding in the last trimester of pregnancy. Methodology: A Cross-sectional study in which the previously validated Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (IIFAS) instrument was applied to women in the last trimester of pregnancy. Results: The attitude towards artificial breastfeeding is positive for 77% of women, while 23% have a neutral stance. None of the women expressed a positive attitude towards offering breastfeeding. Conclusions: The predominant attitude among pregnant women was favorable toward formula feeding. Educational strategies should be strengthened to promote positive attitudes toward breastfeeding.
