ADVANCED NURSING PRACTICE IN HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT

Abstract

Introduction: Healthcare institutions currently face significant challenges: the increasing demand for healthcare services, financial constraints, insufficient human resources, rapid technological advancements, and growing patient demands for care. To address these challenges, hospital administrative management has become a fundamental tool, used to ensure efficiency, quality, and patient safety through nursing administration. Objective: To analyze the importance of advanced practice nursing within healthcare institutions. Development: This paper describes the evolution of Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) since its origins in the 1970s, when it was consolidated into four areas: anesthesia nursing, clinical nursing, midwifery, and, subsequently, in the 1990s, APN gained momentum and expanded into specialties, master's degrees, and doctoral programs, paving the way for a scientific approach and autonomous practice. Currently, APN is organized into four groups: clinical practice, education, research, and organizational development. Conclusion: In the Americas region, there are still important challenges to address, including autonomous decision-making, academic inequality, and the need for legal frameworks that certify the professional rol the nursing.
