Conflicts of Interest and Funding
Conflicts of Interest and Funding
1. Declaration of Conflicts of Interest
At Revista Ciencias del Mar UAS (CIMAR UAS), objectivity is an indispensable principle. A conflict of interest is defined as any personal, financial, commercial, or professional relationship that could inappropriately influence the judgment, results, or interpretations of a manuscript.
- Authors' Obligation: At the time of submission, the corresponding author must declare, on behalf of all co-authors, the existence or absence of any conflict of interest.
- Types of Conflicts: These may include, but are not limited to: stock ownership in interested companies, membership on boards of directors, paid consultancies, or employment relationships with entities whose economic or institutional interests are affected by the study.
- Declaration of Absence: If no conflicts exist, authors must explicitly include the following statement in the manuscript: "The authors declare no conflicts of interest that have influenced the study design or the interpretation of the results."
2. Declaration of Funding Sources
Transparency regarding the origin of resources is vital for scientific traceability.
- Requirement: Authors must clearly identify all sources of financial support that enabled the research, data collection, or data analysis.
- Format: The full name of the funding institution (universities, government agencies, NGOs, or private companies) must be mentioned and, if possible, the contract, grant, or project number associated with it.
- Impact: The editorial team reserves the right to evaluate whether the funding source compromises the neutrality of the study.
3. Neutrality of the Editorial Process
To ensure impartiality in decision-making:
- Editors and Reviewers: Editorial staff and assigned reviewers are obligated to decline participation in the evaluation of a manuscript if there is a personal or professional link with the authors, or a direct economic interest in the subject matter.
- Institutional Transparency: Editorial decisions are based strictly on the scientific quality and relevance of the study to the field of marine sciences, regardless of the research funding's origin.
