Copyright and Intellectual Property
Copyright Transfer and Final Publication Process
1 Copyright and Intellectual Property
At CIMAR UAS, the publication model ensures a balance between author protection and free access to knowledge:
-
Ownership: Authors retain the ownership and copyright of their work permanently.
-
Right of First Publication: Authors grant the journal the right of first publication for their work.
-
Future Use: Authors maintain the right to use all or part of their article in future works (books, lectures, or personal compilations), provided that proper credit is given to the original publication in CIMAR UAS.
2 Formalization of Copyright Transfer
Once a manuscript has successfully passed the peer-review process and has been accepted for publication, the formalization phase begins:
-
The Form: The Editorial Team will send the Copyright Transfer Form to the corresponding author.
-
Signature and Submission: This document must be signed by all involved authors. Its submission is an essential requirement to proceed with the final layout and publication.
-
Legal Commitment: By signing, authors ratify that the work is original and that no third-party rights were violated during the research.
3 Galley Proofs (Layout)
Before final publication, authors will receive a "galley proof" or formatted version of the article:
-
Final Review: Authors have a short period to conduct a final technical, spelling, and formatting review. At this stage, substantial changes to the results or discussion are not permitted.
-
Approval: Once the galley approval and the signed transfer form are received, the manuscript is considered "Ready for Publication."
4 Creative Commons License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)
The final content will be distributed under the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license.
-
Collaboration: This license fosters collaboration and scientific exchange by allowing others to distribute or build upon the original work (non-commercially), as long as it is licensed under the same terms and credit is given to the original author.
-
Visibility: This maximizes the impact of UAS research by allowing marine science to be shared and utilized by the global academic community.
