AUTHOR GUIDELINES

To ensure your manuscript is admitted to the peer review process, strict compliance with the following technical and formatting standards is mandatory.

  1. MANDATORY SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • Mandatory ORCID: It is an essential requirement that all authors have their ORCID identifier linked and updated in their platform profile. Manuscripts omitting this information will not be processed.
  • Institutional Affiliation: Affiliations must be presented strictly in three levels: 1. Institution, 2. Department or Faculty, 3. Location (City and Country).
  • Bilingual Metadata: It is mandatory to enter the Title, Abstract, and Keywords in the OJS platform in both Spanish and English, regardless of the manuscript's language.
  • Cover Letter: Must accompany the manuscript, describing the significance of the research and the relevance of its publication, including a proposal of at least two potential reviewers (full name, institutional affiliation, and email address).
  1. CONTRIBUTION CATEGORIES
  • Scientific Article: Original and reproducible research. Maximum length: 30 pages. Structure: Title (Eng/Spa), Authors (with ORCID), Affiliation, Email (corresponding author), Abstract (Eng/Spa, max. 200 words, including objective), Keywords (max. 5), Introduction (including objective in the final paragraph), Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (including conclusion in the final paragraph), and Literature Cited.
  • Scientific Note: Brief research, new record, or geographic range extension of species. Maximum length: 12 pages. Bilingual abstract of maximum 150 words. Recommended literature cited: maximum 10 citations.
  • Reviews: Synthesis, analysis, and evaluation of the current state of a specific topic in marine sciences. Maximum length: 35 pages. Structure: Title, Authors, Abstract, Introduction, Development (subheadings as deemed appropriate by the author), Discussion, Conclusion, and Literature Cited.
  1. TEXT FORMAT AND SPECIFICATIONS
  • Typography and Style: Times New Roman font, size 12. 1.5 line spacing. Margins: 3.5 cm left, 2.5 cm right, 3 cm top and bottom.
  • Numbering: Pages in the bottom right margin. All lines must be continuously numbered throughout the document.
  • Writing Numbers: Numbers zero through nine must be written as words (except when preceded by a unit); numbers 10 and above should be written as numerals.
  • Scientific Names: In italics, not underlined. Written in full the first time they are used; subsequently, the generic name shall be abbreviated (e.g., C. virginica), except at the beginning of a sentence or in titles.
  • Tables and Figures: Tables in B/W (Table I, Roman numerals); Figures in B/W or color (Figure 1, Arabic numerals). Must be embedded in the text with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Internal text in figures must be between 9 and 12 points.
  1. CITATION STANDARD (APA 7th EDITION)

The Revista Ciencias del Mar UAS uses the format of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th Edition. Authors are responsible for the total correspondence between in-text citations and the final reference list; otherwise, the article will be immediately rejected.

In-Text Citations:

  • One author: (Surname, year).
  • Two to five authors: All surnames are listed the first time; subsequently, only the first author's surname followed by et al. and the year.
  • Six or more authors: From the first mention, use the first author's surname followed by et al.
  • Order: Multiple references within the same parentheses must be listed alphabetically.

Reference List:

Must be presented in alphabetical order. Citing theses, conference presentations, and technical reports should be avoided. It is mandatory to include the DOI and, on the following line, the direct URL link to the publication.

  • Articles: Surname, A. A., & Surname, B. B. (Year). Title of the article. Journal Name, volume(number), pp. xx-xx. doi: xx.xxxxxxx
  • Books: Surname, A. A. (Year). Title. City: Publisher.
  • Institution: Institutional Author. (Date). Title of report. URL: https://...
