Abstract

Introduction: Alcohol and tobacco consumption have been identified as factors that affect individuals' physical and mental health, influencing their self-esteem and contributing to overweight and obesity. Objective: Analyze the relationship between the consumption of these substances, self-esteem, and issues of overweight and obesity. Development: Evidence suggests that individuals who are overweight or obese tend to experience a decline in their self-esteem, which in turn influences their attitudes toward nutrition and physical exercise, generating negative cycles that are difficult to break. The consumption of tobacco and alcohol can exacerbate these problems, as those with low self-esteem are more likely to resort to these substances as a means of coping with their insecurities. This cycle is further aggravated by the interplay between physical and mental health, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to prevention and intervention strategies. Conclusion: To effectively address this issue, it is essential to implement public policies that encompass physical, mental, and social health, aiming to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases and promote a healthier and more equitable environment.
