The 12-year-old girl with the mind of a 7-year-old girl
Abstract
This story takes place during the night shift at a public hospital in the pediatric area, where the main protagonists of the night are a girl whom we will call by a fictitious name to protect her identity and the wisdom of a book called "If you believe it, you create it" by Bryan Tricé. As the shift progresses, the girl opens her heart to me and describes the situations that make her a victim of bullying, insecurities and other experiences that make her feel sad and unmotivated at her young age, since at birth she suffered an episode of neonatal hypoxia and her brain is not in line with her chronological age. Lupita's story is a mix of innocence, strength and vulnerability, and highlights one of the most human and essential facets of nursing: listening to and seeing each patient as a complete being, with a story and emotional needs, not just physical ones.
