R programming language is a free software environment, which, in recent years, has been widely used for data analysis and in the fisheries sciences field it is not an exception. In this manuscript, we conducted an open-source code function in R to optimize the parameters of an individual growth model, in order to emulate Microsoft Excel working approach. The von Bertalanffy model was used to develop a function, which was fitted to a multiplicative error structure using double-blind peer-reviewed data for validation. The function showed good performance obtaining coincidences with the optimized parameters in relation with the double-blind reviewed data, consequently, it is highly recommended to use this function in the individual-growth parameters estimation
