Ogilvie's syndrome also called acute pseudo-obstruction of the colon, described by Dr. William Heneage Ogilvie in 1948, is characterized by massive dilatation of the colon with symptoms suggestive of mechanical intestinal obstruction, without organic cause, its unknown etiology has been associated with various comorbidities. , treatment varies from conservative management to urgent surgical intervention.
The clinical case is of a 71-year-old female patient, with a history of ischemic cerebrovascular event two weeks prior to admission to the emergency room, with no other chronic degenerative history, multi-treated in a private hospital for pain and abdominal distension, without the presence of bowel movements three days prior. Upon admission, laboratory and office studies were performed, evidencing distension of the colonic loops, with data of abdominal compartment syndrome, probable mesenteric ischemia, for which urgent surgical intervention was performed.
