Abstract

Background: Burnout syndrome (BS) among health professionals represents a serious health problem, mainly among resident doctors. Objective: Identify factors associated with burnout syndrome in a sample of resident doctors. Methods: An observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study was carried out, from September 1 to October 5, 2021, with 127 residents who answered the Maslach Burnout Inventory Questionnaire. The variables of age, gender, degree, specialty, work hours, marital status, descendants, and physical activity were recorded. We applied descriptive analysis, Pearson's X2 test and Fisher's exact test to evaluate the associated factors, considering a value of p≤0.05 as statistically significant. Results: 127 doctors were included, 84 men 66.1%, age was 28.92 years, it was found that 33.26% of those surveyed presented BS. The inferential analysis showed that daily work hours ≥12 are correlated with SB p=0.022. Lack of physical activity and SB was significantly related p=0.045, and no association was found for gender p=0.34, degree p=0.11, marital status p=0.54, parenthood p=, specialties p=0 .84, nor age: Fisher's exact test p=1. Conclusion: The proportion of doctors with SB in this location is similar to what has been described in other investigations; the hours of work and not performing physical activity were associated with SB, while gender, age, medical specialty, academic degree, marital status, or having children.
