Abstract

The objective of this multidisciplinary research between environmental and chemical sciences is the comprehensive understanding of the excessive use of sunscreens and their toxic effect on all aquatic organisms, including their parasites as components of an ecosystem. This research was carried out during tourism activities in ecological reserves in Goiás, Brazil where one health vision is integrated, including service providers and tourists. The importance of ecotoxicology is highlighted as a key science that identifies the impact of chemicals contained in sunscreen products that disrupt the physiology, reproduction, behavior, and biological processes in larval stages of aquatic organisms such as fish, amphibians, mollusks, including their parasites and the role they play as environmental biomonitors. This research promotes concrete proposals of ecological awareness such as: promoting the use of clothing (hats, long sleeves, and pants) under the sun to replace sunscreens and not harm all the native population of the aquatic environment.
